Eagles Nest Outfitters
When it came to needing a new hammock recently, I knew I wanted my purchase to be a considered one. While it is nice to have all the features that help make sleeping outdoors comfortable, I also wanted to buy from a company that not only provided quality product but gave back to the community and encourages responsible hammocking.
I became aware of the Eagles Nest Outfitters (ENO) brand, and when it comes to versatility and inspiration in the outdoors, they have it all covered. They are within their own niche, where they not only give you a sense of freedom and adventure but help make the world a better place by partnering with Trees for the Future and 1% Planet. It was then I decided I had to look further into what ENO hammocks had to offer.
Who are they?
ENO began with brothers Peter and Paul Pinhoster who decided to make hanging around in the wilderness their full-time job. They wanted to be challenged creatively while still being able to live the laid-back lifestyle they desired. What began as a small business selling hammocks at music festivals has now grown into a sustainable, thriving business that has some of the worlds best hammocks and accessories worldwide.
Point of Difference – Responsible Hammocking
One of the reasons ENO hammocks are one of the best on the market is because the environment is at the forefront of the brother’s minds. As shelters, hammocks can be an excellent tree-friendly option, as long as it is done right. The point of difference for ENO is that they source high-quality materials, including recycled content, to ensure sustainable and long-term use of products in what has essentially become a throwaway society.
Additionally, they advocate responsible hammocking, meaning they recommend and create tree-friendly suspension systems that leave little to no trace on the environment and our trees. This is done by:
- Using “tree saver” straps that are made out of webbing which minimises damage to the bark.
- Never hammering or screwing anything into the trees.
- Keep your camping area small.
- Do not hang your hammock from dead treas as this will not only cause possible damage to yourself but also the area around you.
- Always clean up after yourself when you leave a space.
Setting up your ENO Hammock
ENO Hammocks are relatively easy to set up, which makes being in the outdoors a whole lot more fun. It is so quick that you will be lying back in your hammock and taking in your surroundings within five minutes of arrival. To set up an ENO Hammock, follow these easy instructions:
- Find trees
- Measure between 3-3.5 metres
- Attach straps 1.5 metres from the ground
- Unpack and open hammock
- Attach the carabiners to the strap
- Adjust the slope and height for your level of comfort
- Sit in the hammock then swivel
- Lie back, relax and enjoy your surroundings
Choosing the right ENO Hammock
ENO has a variety of hammock types that they have created and are recommended for different environments and purposes. From a seat to being able to sleep on your side, we discovered versatility in their product and had us excited by the possibilities for our next purchase.

Hammock Sizes
There are generally standard sizes for hammocks, single and double being the most common. The size refers to the number of people that will fit comfortably into the hammock. Length is also fairly standard, but there are longer hammocks for the taller person.
Single Hammocks
As it sounds, single hammocks are ideal for one person. The weight capacity for the ENO brand range anywhere between 136Kg and 181kg meaning you could share with a small animal companion if within the right hammock weight range.
Double Hammocks
These are made with two people in mind and are among the most popular. They aren’t only popular because they can be shared, but also because they are roomy if sleeping on your own. Even better, the ENO range generally compresses down to a tiny size, making them great for a bike hike.
Accessories
It’s debatable whether you need accessories or not and it really comes down to personal preference. Tarps and bug netting can make your hammock experience a whole lot more comfortable and protect you further from the elements. The small amount of weight they add to your pack makes these a good choice.
Other accessories such as insulation, lights, speakers, chairs, pillows etc… all depend on how much you want to carry and whether you consider them essential to you. If you are just using your hammock at home, then you may choose to add lots of extras for ultimate comfort and protection from the elements if using outdoors.
Where to purchase ENO Hammocks
Apart from being able to buy from ENO Hammocks directly from their Australian website, they are also available from the following distributors:
